Check Out Go Skate Kabul '11 on Skype!

Did you know that June 21st is worldwide Go Skateboarding Day?  Skateistan Afghan Skate School is organizing its 3rd annual Go Skateboarding Day Kabul, the only event of its kind in Afghanistan. Skateistan will take over the streets of Kabul to promote their cause and show the world how great their students are.  If you've seen any of the pictures from year's past, you'd know that it's an amazing day where girls, boys, men, and women gather together to celebrate skateboarding.

The kids of Skateistan will take to the streets, doing a loop from the Skateistan park through some of the city’s oldest districts. Participants will celebrate the day by wearing traditional clothing while they represent the Afghan skate scene to the world: shalwar camises for boys and brightly coloured celebration clothes for the girls.

The Afghan skate scene will be represented in full force by the boys and girls of Skateistan, as well as the Skateistan volunteers and staff members. Last year 160 kids made it out to Go Skateboarding Day Kabul, with even more expected this year. This year Skateistan is preparing 100 skateboards to be shared amongst its students. Donkey carts will be hired during the skate-a-thon to carry drinking water and maybe even the smallest skaters if they get too tired. Participants will end up at the Skateistan park, where there will be a skateboard contest for girls, boys and disabled skaters.

Since Skateistan has come to Kabul, slowly but surely, we're starting to see kids around the city testing out their skills on the streets.  Go Skateboarding Day is a great way to show off the Skateistan students to Kabul and the world.

Organizers of other GSD events worldwide are encouraged to email info@skateistan.org if they’d like to Skype video chat with the Skateistan crew during the event.

When? 9AM - 12AM, Tuesday, 21st June Kabul Time (contest 11AM - 12AM). Please see World Clock.com to figure out which time this would be for you in your time zone.
